Jean Carré was born in 1947 in Mekhnès, Morocco. A graduate of the Decorative Art School of Strasbourg in 1969, he has lived and worked in the St Paul de Vence region since 1972.
His trips and stays in southern Morocco and the desert, especially in contact with nomads, provided a springboard to a more general pictorial approach to Africa, its tribal rites, its dances, where the focus of work is on bodies and groups.
Since 1996 he has his own gallery and studio at St Paul de Vence.
Jean Carrière is the animal painter and sculptor pseudonym of Jean Carré. ...
